Ecumenical Walk

Good Friday Ecumenical Walk

In 1969, the Pastors of St. Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Greendale Community Church, and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church decided to hold an Ecumenical Good Friday Walk with the Cross and Prayer Service. This tradition continues today and this family-friendly Walk with the Cross begins at 2:00 p.m. at St. Thomas of Canterbury, located at Grange and Northway. A prayer is said, and folks take turns carrying the large Cross. From St. Thomas, they walk to St Luke’s, then down Broad Street, continue to Greendale Community Church, and then walk to St Alphonsus, where the Cross is set near the altar. The Prayer Service begins at 3:00 p.m. This year’s Service is focused on "A Suffering God Who Enters into Our Suffering" and includes Scripture, Prayer, Music, and reflections by clergy/church leaders. A freewill offering will be taken to provide meals for the civilians in Gaza City, Palestine, through World Central Kitchen. Consider joining your neighbors for this ecumenical experience.
